This excellent and careful academic study and meta-analysis by the Reverend Father Thomas L. Schubeck, Professor of Religious Ethics, and author of such other theological treatises as LOVE THAT DOES JUSTICE and Divine Revolution: Salvation and Liberation in Catholic Thought.: An article from: Theological Studies, as a fine and patient professor of Catholic theology carefully opens for us a portal to this infinite mystery, with much written here not only for the novice in this crucial field but also for those fully familiar with it, and those who believe they already are.

This, Father Schulbeck's definitive theological text here must not be confused with the earlier study by long-time political scientist Swomley under the same title: LIBERATION ETHICS a Political Scientist Examines the Role of Violence in Revolutionary Change. Swomley examines more the political ethics of movements of national liberation. Father Schubeck presents a comprehensive study of the religion of Liberation, personal, prayerful, community and as a pilgrim people seeking God's eschatalogical Reign in Love, in Peace and in Justice.
This book therefore presents not only the Reverend Father Schubeck's meta-analysis of the literature at that time, including study at the excellent Woodstck Theological Institute's facilities and faculty, but also Father SChulbeck's primary reserach in the field, visiting extensively Latin America and interviewing those leading Catholic theologians who demonstrated Liberation within Catholicism, and through Catholicism, which is the hope, and the love and the Faith of our Future as a Church. The interviews with these great theologians, including the Reverend Father Gustavo Gutierrez of A Theology of Liberation: History, Politics, and Salvation (15th Anniversary Edition with New Introduction by Author) and the holy martyr for our Faith, the Reverend Father Ignacio Ellacuria (examined more specifically in La teología histórica de Ignacio Ellacuría) to whose companion martyrs this volume is dedicated, and of course with the great Friar Boff whose prayer Ecclesiogenesis: The Base Communities Reinvent the Church must be studied carefully in this regard, alone are worthy of careful and thoughtful and prayerful meditation as lectio divina within this soon coming Holy Week as we await the miracle of the Resurrection in liberation from our suffering and Passion under oppression.
As a scholarly Jesuit priest Father Schubeck also examines the history of Christian (specifically Roman Catholic) ethics and its meaning with the Theology of Liberation, how one informs the other, how we practice Liberation through our Christian ethics and absolute renunciation of violence, and how we practice our Christian ethics only through Liberation in all of its aspects, as Jesus continuously promised from first to last in his public ministry.
